I grew up in the Canadian Prairies and lived and worked in British Columbia. Over 13 years ago, I moved to New Zealand to be with a Kiwi I met over 20 years earlier. It’s a long story… We farmed on a station on the wild west coast and moved back to my husband’s home turf in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, and back to the best climate in NZ.
I love to create – so many ideas, so little time! I love the idea of re-purposing, and started using glass and china to create whimsical items for my garden – glass flowers, bird baths and feeders. I got a great response from friends and family and then became addicted to the whole process from sourcing the glass to stacking them to create quirky things.
I’ve collected thousands of plates, votives, bowls and vases – it takes a lot of ‘raw’ materials to have one just the right colour of blue, or just the right size of plate, or just the right shape of bowl. Coming up with different permutations and combinations to change plates and glass into flowers or bird baths can take time. Occasionally I get the combination down right away, but often I’m arranging and rearranging, leaving it for a couple of days and come back to see if it still strikes me. I’m always looking for bright coloured plates and glass and trying to find just the right piece to complete a project.
I make other bits and pieces for the shop as I try new projects and techniques. It adds to the ever changing stock in the shop, and hopefully adds each customer’s enjoyment of the shop.
