Hi I’m Helen and I am a Soap Maker. I have lived in Whakatane since 1982 and simply love living in the Bay of Plenty.

 

I have always enjoyed dabbling in arts and crafts having done beading, candle making, sewing, knitting, crocheting & macrame. However, after an illness several years ago I was looking for something to occupy my time and be good therapy while I recovered. A friend made a comment to me one day alluding to the fact that she made her own soap. I asked her to show me how it was done, and after making my first batch of soap I was hooked! Utterly addicted! After producing many batches of soap -my husband told me I either had to stop making it or sell it. Well, I wasn’t about to stop making it was I ? -so off I went to the market and started selling my creations. I continued to sell at markets for approx. 2 years 

I joined the co-op and work alongside some other very creative people. Now I can
concentrate on producing some quality handmade soap and associated products. I mainly use the “cold process” method of soap making and start right from scratch.

By making your own soaps you know exactly what is in it -so no nasties added.

My range has grown and I have plain soaps, fancy soaps, doggy soaps, shampoo bars, , bath bombs, bath salts, lip balms, beard balms & oils, shaving soap and shaving sets, foot balms, and a selection of herbal balms. I also have produced some reusable beeswax food wraps. As the weather cools out come the knitting needles

and I've made several styles of tea cozies. I'm also dabbling in some rock painting.
